This week I was reading up on what’s going on in the lovely world of fashion, and I came across a headline that mentioned both Princess Diana and Rihanna. Now, normally, if I see Rihanna mentioned in a headline, I’m not compelled to read the article necessarily (her fashion choices aren’t exactly my style), but I see Princess Diana and I am of course intrigued.
When Princess Diana passed away I was very young, and I had no idea who she was, but I knew she was a Princess and immediately became obsessed. When she passed away her picture was everywhere. I used to cut out the pictures and keep this really strange shrine to her (I was a weird kid). I’m not sure whether I kept them just because I was the typical little girl who loved anything princess related, or whether I appreciated good style even at a young age. Regardless, to this day, I love the royals and I love style. And Lady Di, well she had both.
Here’s what Rihanna had to say about the fashion icon in a Vogue article:
She was like – she killed it,” said Rihanna. “Every look was right. She was gangsta with her clothes. She had these crazy hats. She got oversize jackets. I loved everything she wore.” Rihanna also calls Lady Diana, “the best who ever did it” (with regards to fashion, of course).
Never would I think I’d have such a similar opinion as Rihanna, and I’m not sure I would really say Princess Diana was “gangsta” with her clothes, but I’m pretty sure that’s a huge compliment in Rihanna talk. So good call, Rihanna. I couldn’t agree more. Princess Diana sure was gangsta with her style. Don’t you think…
Princess Diana and her Hats
The turban style on the right is by far my favourite. So unique.
Princess Diana and the Red Carpet
Casual Princess Diana
(because even a princess has her casual days)
And some of my favourites:
Top left is by far my absolute favourite look from Princess Diana. Everything about that pictures embodies true style – from the hat, to the print of her coat, to even the look she’s giving the camera. Diana was a true style icon.
