You can’t be into fashion and not be interested in what celeberties wore to the Met Gala. I wasn’t totally into the theme this year: Punk. But maybe that’s because my style pretty much has no punk influence in it. Regardless, there were some really interesting outfit choices this year. Some I loved, some I hated, some I appreciated, and some I just wasn’t sure of. Typical. One thing I know for sure is that I disagreed with a lot of the picks that Perez Hilton made for his dislikes and favorites (yes, I’m an avid Perez Hilton reader, I admit it). Anyway, I sometimes allow other people’s opinions to sway my own. I’ll like an outfit and then if a majority says they don’t, I tend to change my tune. It’s a terrible habit, especially for someone who hopes to get into the fashion industry. I need to be more confident in my picks, so here are just a couple of the ones that caught my eye. Agree, disagree, but be true to how you actually feel about the fashion!
By the way, if you’re into fashion, I really suggest checking out what others wore. I included 6 here, but there are so many others that are worth looking at!
I LOVED this. I might say it was my favourite, and I already know it made some worst dressed lists, but I don’t care. I’ve read other people bash on the print, but the print is my favourite part. It’s different and has an amazing 70s vintage feel to it. I love the ruffled train as well. So pretty and feminine! Paired with the dark lipstick and the lack of accessories, I think Kim Kardashian totally nailed this one!
Blake Lively got it right in embracing the theme, but not going too over the top. Plus, the dress just fits her perfectly. I think she definitely could have been a bit more daring. Perhaps done some wild hairstyle? I feel like I’ve seen this style a lot on her, but I couldn’t ignore how awesome the shape of this dress is. Plus, I love the black feathers.
I am in love with Kate Beckinsale’s shoes. Absolutely in love. No wonder she picked a short dress to show those babies off. I think the red and black combination fits the punk theme, plus those earrings are perfect for the Met Gala this year.
I think I tended to dislike the ones that were too out there, but maybe that’s because I’m not totally “out there” myself. I felt like these fashion risks didn’t really pay off. Having said that, I can definitely embrace daring fashions. You’ll notice I didn’t put Katy Perry or Sarah Jessica Parker on this list. Their outfits were too odd for me, but I totally appreciated what they did! But on to my dislikes.
She may be the Queen, but I just could not get on board on with this gown from Beyonce. I love the Baroque print, but the the top looks tacky to me. Seriously, is it pleather? And the weird boot? It honestly looks like a Halloween costume. I know it’s the Met Gala and the outfits are supposed to be “costume-like”, but I’m thinking cheap and tacky isn’t really the goal. This just didn’t work for me, at all. Her hair and makeup is beautiful, though.
This dress has SO much potential. It’s definitely not bad enough that I should include it on my worst dressed list (when compared with some of the really terrible ones). I think this dress just makes me sad because I know I could have loved it. It could be so regal and elegant, but what is up with the shape?? The shape makes Ashley Greene looks like a box, or she’s storing a whole city under that skirt. Obviously I’m not making a comment about her weight, at all (I would never do that); I just don’t understand how wearing a dress like that is flattering. I’m scratching my head over this one. Love the fabric and the cut of the top. So much potential…
And my LEAST favourite: Miley Cyrus. I get it, the theme was punk! And yes, we all know you’re not a Disney star anymore, but really, what is going on here that could be considered flattering? I think the hair is the most disappointing thing for me. I’m not a fan of her short hair in general, but whatever, if she likes it that’s all that matters, but come on, she could have done a cool mohawk style or something. These hair spikes with the fishnet is just WAY too much!
There are some REALLY bad ones, but I decided to only include three (google Ashley Olsen or Elle Fanning and you’ll know what I mean by bad).
I’d be at this forever if I actually ordered my picks from best to worst, but these are the ones that caught my attention. I just needed to get my two cents in. Let me know if you agree or disagree!!
